If you have some goals in mind already stop and write them down. Otherwise keep reading and I’ll share ways to identify where you should focus your marketing efforts and goals around based on where your business is currently.
First thing to do if you aren’t sure where you should focus your marketing on, is look at your analytics. There are two key metrics to evaluate to determine where you should start.
First, look at how much traffic you’re getting to your site? If you’re just getting started, likely the biggest hurdle you’ll have is getting awareness about your brand and getting traffic to your site. Your customers cant buy from you if they’re not aware your online business exists. If you have less than 1,000 visitors in a month you are going to want to focus on getting traffic to your site.
Second, look at your conversion rate, if you’re less than 2%, then that is where we’re gonna focus our goal, is on increasing that conversion rate. If you’re between 2%-3%, you are in the average conversion rate for an e-commerce site.
If you have over 1,000 visitors a month and are between a 2%-3% conversion rate, great work, now the choice is yours. I would recommend though focusing on increasing your conversion rate first though as then even with the same amount of traffic you’ll end up with more conversions. Then once you increase that conversion rate we can move to increase traffic and you’ll scale your business faster.
The first step if you aren’t achieving the results in your business that you want is to set a clear goal(s).
